Only You (Maya Angelou) A tribute to a QUEEN In "PHENOMENAL WOMAN", I can see all those things in you I would probably fall to my knees if I ever saw you too You said men often wondered what they saw in you, well I know what I see Grace, Intelligence, Wisdom, Strength, Beauty, and Integrity You were born in 1928 along with Duke Ellington's song "Black Beauty", penicillin and bubble gum too If I was to have a woman your age it could be Only You In "STILL I RISE" you said you may write me down in history with your bitter twisted lies You have already made history as the best poet ever and your name and poetry is as synonymous as hamburger and fries I love your sassiness and your sexiness isn't surprising at all Your sexiness is as surprising as the leaves turning color every single Fall Expressing yourself as a black ocean and walking like you got oil wells pumping in your living room, sticks to me like glue No one else in the world could have expressed words like this Only You "ON THE PULSE OF MORNING" speaks for itself what can I say It's one of the best poems ever written and not because it was part of President Clinton's Inauguration Day If it's not the best poem ever written it's number two The number one poem would have to be another poem written by Only You. by: TERRY WILLIAMS, Center Stage Magazine Publisher |
