The studio was built on the premises to create stars. Powers equipped the studio with a big dance room, hi-tech systems, live rehearsal /recording room, iso room, lounge, blackroom, a room, and b room. Powers has always had a gift for music. As a child he started off by playing the guitar. He has had so many remarkable accomplishments while pursing his true love. Powers first gig was as a musician with Flytetime. Once Powers was bitten by the music bug, he went on to play with other notables. Groups like the Prince protégé group, The Time, Alexander O’Neal. Powers, toured extensively with O’Neal under the label called Tabu Records. The tour went nationally and on to being an international tour over a span of six years.

After ending his six year rewarding stint with O’Neal, Powers moved to Detroit in 1989. Detroit is when Powers discovered his ability to become a business man in the Recording industry. He opened his first studio in Detroit. First, Powers attracted local artists providing live sound. Next, word spread and Powers began attracting national artists. Some of his clients have been artists and musicians like, The Ridgeway Sisters, The Clark Sisters, Orthea Barnes, The Winans and Tim Bowman. Powers has such an extensive musical background he could not miss being successful. He soon found himself working with some of the most well recognized music directors and musicians, such as Valdez and Kern Brantley, who introduced him to the remarkable artists, “princess of hip-hop,” Aaliyah. Powers had the chance to become Aaliyah’s sound engineer, production manager and family friend. This was a dark time for Powers, when the world suffered the loss of Aaliyah, because not only did the world lose a unique incredible artist but, Powers lost an irreplaceable friend. Powers, continued pursuing his love for music pouring his heart and soul into creating a successful studio. Developing his craft as new projects arrived.

Powers says, “many people new to the entertainment business have no knowledge of the dedication, stamina and know-how it takes to contribute to a major production, let alone a successful tour.” So, he used his road and stage experience and mastered a major production house (M Studio ATL). Also, Powers could not go wrong having Alvin Speights on his team. Alvin is one of the most extraordinary Grammy winner, Mix/Audio engineers in the USA. Alvin has mixed for top producers such as, Dallas Austin, Jermaine Dupri, Outkast & Goodie Mob, Darryl Simmons and Shannon Sanders to name a few. Powers is constantly staying abreast of the ever changing technologies involved and equipment used in the industry. Powers is a dedicated professional working day and night to create his new facility. The M Studio ATL includes a video production and editing, still photography and graphic/web design to meet the increasing demand for digital proficiency.

Powers, musical talents even allowed him to sync live sound with video onsite during a live performance, on the “Up Close and Personal Tour” in 2006, for national recording headliners, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown. Powers, proving to the music industry that he had special talents, attracted industry manufacturers, CAD Microphones and Livid Instruments. Both companies invited Powers to evaluate their products. This invitation by CAD Microphones and Livid resulted in Powers, serving as one of the leading industry engineers and experts endorsing the CAD ribbon microphone series as well as Livid’s Union software.

Powers, currently being recognized as a focused creative talent through out the industry. If you don’t come out with a successful sound, that would be on you, because M Studio ATL has taken flight. Reputation of having that clear vibrant sound heard on radio waves makes M Studio ATL stand out. I also, expressly agree this studio is innovative, a sure winner.

DM: What’s in the future for M Studio ATL?

Powers: Well, I see a lot evolving for the studio. Expanding into films is another aspiration of mine. Like the Green Screen, it’s so hi- tech, you can create an entire film in just one location. You can manipulate the environment with out a hint, that it is the same room you are filming in.

DM: How did you find such talented staff members?

Powers: Things just happened for me. Everyone that came through my door I had a place for them. They brought talents to my company I needed. Everything just fell into place.

DM: When did you start having an interest in music?

Powers: When I was about six years old and my first musical instrument was the guitar.

DM: You’ve worked with so many fascinating entertainers, who stands out in your mind?

Powers: Yes, that is true every experience has been great. I guess you can say the O’Neal tour was a life experience especially going international. Aaliyah, of course will always be one of the greatest life time experiences.

DM: How is it different working with bands verses an artist?

Powers: It is really different because bands are live and most groups don’t have live bands behind them. I really miss seeing bands around. I think we are missing something.

DM: Tell me what makes your studio stand out?

Powers: We can do so many things such as video, recording, film, photos and so much more. You see, we are not just a recording studio.

As you can clearly see this is not a regular studio it is a unique concept tailored by Powers. Merion “Joei” Powers, is a man that had a vision and brought it to life.
