Once again it was on in Atlanta Ga. at the
Phillips Arena, Gospel Choirs from all over
went head to head for the “How Sweet The
Sound” competition. Grammy winner and
Stellar Award winner Donald Lawrence was the
host of the event, with celebrity judges
Gabrielle Union, along with Marvin Sapp and
Hezekiah Walker. The Arena was packed; and
the choirs were lined up to sing like Angels
on stage. CURTAINS UP! IT’S SHOW TIME!!! SO
GET YOUR PRAISE ON!!!!
Ladee Storem: So what’s new for you
in 2009 Donald?
Donald Lawrence: I have a new album
coming out called “The Law Of Confessions
Part 1” inspired by the forthcoming book
“The Law Of Confessions” by Bill Winston. I
call it the tool for everybody to live by.
What goes up must come down, based on
scriptures in God’s word. Whatever you’re
going through just find a scripture in the
Bible that relates to your problem and
repeat the scripture over and over again
each and everyday and watch how God work
things out. |
|
Ladee Storem: Oh really, I think I’ll
have to try that.
Donald Lawrence: Oh yeah it really
works, when we understand the power of his
word just find a scripture that relates to
your situation and you’ll see a change.
Ladee Storem: How was it working on
Hezekiah Walker’s album?
Donald Lawrence: It was great! First
of all Hezekiah is one of my true friends
and he trust me and I don’t take that
likely. He recorded last June and I recorded
in July. I got into his record and I shut my
record down. By being a producer sometimes
you get more into your project instead of
the artist you’re working with.
Ladee Storem: That’s true; sometimes you can
get off track.
Donald Lawrence: Right, I know how it is, by
being an artist you don’t know if the
producer is going to focus more on their
project or the artist. So I finished his
album first and went back and put the final
touches on my album and guess what?
Ladee Storem: What’s that?
Donald Lawrence: They both are great albums
and I think everyone will love it.
Ladee Storem: Oh yes, every time I hear your
music on the radio as well as Hezekiah’s
single, it really makes me get my shout on.
Donald Lawrence: {laughing} Amen that’s a
good thing.
Ladee Storem: So, are you working with any
more Gospel Artist at this time?
Donald Lawrence: I’ll be working on Vanessa
Bell Armstrong’s CD soon… I’ll be doing her
entire album. It’s been a while and I want
to take my time and do a great job with her.
I love her, I love her spirit, I love her
vocals and I’m looking forward to doing
great things with her.
Ladee Storem: That’s great….so was it 2006
or 2007 when you took home about seven or
eight Stellar Awards?
Donald Lawrence: It was 2006 and 2007,
honestly in those two years I won about
thirteen Stellar Awards and then last year I
won a Grammy. So it’s been amazing, it’s
been a change in my speech. I feel if you
speak positive things, positive things will
come back to you.
Ladee Storem: So will you be doing any
movies or stage plays soon?
Donald Lawrence: You know what? I’m really
working my way into the television world. I
don’t have any thing solid yet but I’m
around the right people. I may do a choir
reality TV show, it’s in the making……we’ll
see.
Ladee Storem: What does it take for a person
that’s not famous to present songs to you or
want you to be in their stage play?
Donald Lawrence: I’m not saying I don’t
except other people’s material, it just has
to be something that moves me. It has to be
great and something that I need to say at
this time. I hear great songs all the time I
just know for me things work in seasons.
Ladee Storem: Thank you for your time and
may God continue to bless you.
Donald Lawrence: Many blessings unto
you…………….
Ladee Storem: Also, to all you fans and
church folks out there! Go get that album!
