"
Unique Life Empowerment"
The Young Adult's Guide to Cherishing EVERY moment

“Stand for Something!!”
By Deveata Williams

We all know the old saying, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” Part of being a young adult self-motivated by unique life empowerment is finding a cause or a purpose to believe in. I believe we all have our own framework of morals and values that are built solely around our life experiences. Stephen R. Covey in his book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” describes these frameworks as “powerful paradigms that create the lens through which we see the world.” As individuals we can either choose to nurture our morals and values into talents that give back to society or just let society mold us into whatever the popular trend is at the moment. Which will YOU choose?

“LadyVee DaPoet”, the spoken word artist that resides in my heart, is a strong advocate for quality creative expression. Recently, I’ve taken the volunteer position to co-host a radio show titled “Express Yo Self” streaming nationwide at WIGOAM.com and on the air at 1570 AM The Light. Every Wednesday night at 8 pm my co-host, “Mr. Love me or Hate me” and I interview male and female models, spoken word artists, entertainers, talk about relationship issues and a general topic of the week. I thought this freelance position would be a perfect outlet for me to connect with artistic people and grow in my own talent in the process.

We’ve done 3 shows already and I see a trend forming that I don’t agree with nor understand. My co-host has asked me to contact and schedule interviews with male models all around the nation. He tells me that the entertainment aspect of having models interviewed on the show will help us get exposure and will be a great thing.

As a quality artist, I can not stand by and just go along with the popular opinion of the two male owners of this radio show. What makes us unique individuals is a willingness to stand firm in our own convictions and not be swayed by something that you clearly feel in your gut is wrong or inappropriate. I am determined to stand up for myself and others that believe in empowering themselves with quality expression. It’s who I am, it’s what I stand for, and I wouldn’t dare fall for or support anything less!
