Alright, so you’re there.
You’ve made the big decision to
take the Nestea plunge and jump
out there on your own. No
safety nets. No ropes.
Nothing!! You’re going to take
all of your energy and effort
and knowledge and you are going
to lay it on the line.
You feel great, everything is rolling, rolling and
rolling. You are running your operation by yourself. You know, what
I’m talking about right now. You’re doing it all. You’re the secretary
and you’re also the receptionist. You’re the human resources, you’re
everything. In the beginning, you had it all under control.

Then,
out of blue, the thing you hoped
for happens. You start getting
business and you’re loving every
moment. Your phone is ringing
off the hook. You got orders
coming in from all over. Your
schedule is full and you love
it.
However, the success comes at a
price. Now, you find that you
don’t have time to do any of
those things you use to do. You
started your company as a solo
proprietor but now you need to
make it a company but you don’t
have time to draft the paper
work. You need contracts
prepared, but you don’t have
time. You are managing your
books, but you don’t have time
to be a bookkeeper. You need to
return calls, audit your records
and mail out documents,
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!! You see the
picture.
At some point in time, you have
to make that move to put the
pieces in place so that you can
RUN your business instead of
working it. You need an
accountant to keep your finances
in order. You need a bookkeeper
to manage your books. You need
a marketing representative to
keep the money coming in the
door. You need an attorney to
take care of your documents and
legal needs. You need a
receptionist to answer the
phone. You need an employee to
do the work. Once you have all
of these things in place, THEN,
you can make money.
Now, I bet you’re asking
yourself (trust me, I’m doing
this now), where in the hell do
I get the money to do these
things. Well, you better get
yourself a business plan, a few
friends, and a proposal because
if you want to be around longer
than a week, you will need to do
so. The biggest problem a lot
of businesses have is that they
do not plan beyond the next
day. They focus so hard on
getting the money in the door
that they don’t spend the time
trying to plan to keep the money
coming in the door for the next
5 years or 10 years or even 15
years. As much as we hate to
admit it, we are more interested
in, RIGHT NOW than we are in
RIGHT.
When you think about it, it’s
all simple math. If you are the
boss, the employee, the
receptionist, the bookkeeper,
the accountant, the marketing
representative, the collection
agent, and the salesperson, you
are doing the role of 8 people
and there’s only one of you.
Don’t burn yourself out by
thinking that you can do it all
because in the end, you really
can’t.
